My clients call me Dr. Janice.
Because therapy is a relationship built on trust. I show up fully. I expect honesty. I give it right back.
I’m warm. I’m direct. I’m not here to put on a professional mask. I’m human, and I show up that way in therapy.
I’m not here for surface-level therapy or therapy that circles the same issues forever.
I’m here to help you change your life.
My Approach
I believe healing requires both compassion and accountability.
People come to therapy for a lot of reasons. Some are exhausted. Some are stuck. Some can’t stop overthinking. Some keep finding themselves in relationships that leave them confused, anxious, and doubting themselves.
Many of my clients are women who are questioning, leaving, or have already left relationships impacted by:
- Gaslighting
- Narcissistic abuse
- Emotional manipulation
- Coercive control
- Betrayal
- Chronic criticism disguised as “concern”
These relationships don’t just hurt your feelings. They can make you question your own reality.
If that’s part of your story, therapy becomes about more than coping. It becomes about rebuilding trust in yourself.
What Therapy With Me Is (and Isn’t)
I want to be clear because you deserve to know what you’re signing up for.
I’m not here to keep you dependent on therapy.
I’m not here to talk you into staying hopeful about situations that continue to hurt you.
I’m here to help you see what’s true, understand your options, and decide what you want to do next.
And I’m not here to help you build your identity around what happened to you.
Therapy with me is practical, honest, and relationship-based.
We’ll absolutely talk about what happened to you and how it affected you. We will name the trauma and its effects.
But we will also build agency.
Because the goal is not to stay in the story forever.
The goal is to get your life back.
I’m an active therapist. I’m not going to sit quietly for 50 minutes, nod occasionally, and send you back into your life with a vague “see you next week.”
We’ll talk. We’ll identify patterns. We’ll build skills. We’ll create a plan.
I want therapy to lead somewhere.
Who I Work Best With
I tend to work best with clients who:
- Are ready to stop abandoning themselves
- Want warmth without fluff
- Are willing to practice skills outside of session
- Want structure, tools, and honest reflection
- Want to understand patterns and break them
You do not need to be confident to start therapy.
You do need to be willing.
Values Matter Here
I am anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, and social justice oriented.
Mental health does not happen in a vacuum. Identity, power, oppression, safety, access, and systemic harm matter.
You will never have to convince me racism exists.
You will never have to justify your identity.
You will never be told to “stop being political” when your rights, safety, or humanity are involved.
Political Grief Support
Political grief is real grief.
A lot of people are carrying fear, anger, sadness, and exhaustion related to the current political climate.
If that is affecting your mental health, therapy can help.
Together, we can focus on:
- Stabilizing anxiety and trauma responses
- Reclaiming agency and groundedness
- Setting boundaries around news and social media without checking out
- Coping with the strain of being the “strong one”
- Staying connected to your values and purpose

A Bit More About Me
I have been blind since birth.
I know what it feels like to be underestimated. I also know what it means to build a strong identity in a world that wants to tell you who you are.
Before private practice, I spent twelve years working for the State of Texas in the Division for Blind Services in multiple roles, including Vocational Rehabilitation Teacher and Blind Children’s Specialist.
That experience continues to shape how I think about disability, identity, resilience, and access.
I do not believe in therapy that keeps people dependent on therapy.
I believe in therapy that helps people build a life they no longer need to escape from.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
Therapy with me is:
- Supportive and grounded
- Direct (with care)

- Structured enough to create change
You are allowed to be a mess in therapy.
But you do not have to stay there.
